Pros and Cons of Using Pond Kits
As with any kind
of do-it-yourself project, planning to use pond
kits for your outdoor water garden does have its
pros and cons.
Some of the pros
and cons are listed here, but it is always a
good idea to create one of your own for your own
unique situation.
The biggest pro for using pond kits is the money
you will save. Hiring a company to come to your
home to install a pond can get very pricey,
while doing it yourself can save you a lot.
However, this pro could turn into a con if you
run into problems. You haven’t given yourself a
fixed price quote, so you may run into a higher
expense if you do something to mess up the
installation.
Other pros of using pond kits are:
- The fun you
will have installing it.
- The pride and
satisfaction of doing the project yourself –
and you can brag about it, too!
- It is a
project your whole family can get involved
with.
- The fact that
you can make the pond exactly how you want
it.

There are several
cons to using pond kits, too. The largest con is
that installing pond kits takes a lot of time.
Since time is something most people have a hard
time finding, your pond installation project
could be stretched out over many months.
Other cons of using pond kits are:

is a lot of work!
- You aren’t a
trained pond installer, so there is always
the “do something wrong, learn from it,
start over again” to deal with.
- Since you are
learning as you go, it is hard to make the
project look totally “professional”.
- Many of the
pond materials, like the rocks, are
extremely heavy.
- Clean up is
your job.
- There is no
guarantee when you install yourself.
- Tools are
needed, so if you don’t have something that
will add to the expense.
Only you can decide
if using pond kits is what you want for your
outdoor water garden. Make a list of your own
and see which side “wins”.
